Old Birds 2001 was a bit tough on me. I was recovering from a operation just
getting out of the hospital 2 weeks before the first race. The birds did well
for me winning 7 club races and two combines. We again won both 540 miles races, in
the club. click to see the first
500, now the second 500. The races were tough with head wind and rain for the birds
to fly in. This type of weather put me at a disadvantage as my loft is
longest measurement in the combine. we give 70 miles to the short enders
.I was not feeling up to snuff but the birds did there best for me and
kept me on top again. I won combine Average speed and
Champion loft. for 2001 Old Birds. When and
if you take a look at the sheets you will see a few different All American flyers
competing in this combine. We
also had the 2nd Champion Bird in the combine.
When Young birds 2001 started I did not feel like even flying I flew all the races
and won most of the combine awards. Walsh loft did not fly young birds in 99 and only flew
four young bird races in 2000. In 2000 I was
1,2 on
a 279-mile race wining with my 4074 and 2,3 on a 334-mile YB race. I did well in the other two as
well in year 2000. In 2001 I jumped into racing and was not trained or prepared like in the past
years , we had a fantastic young bird season even though, I am getting old losing my
desire.. My first
yb Race 8-25-01. 157
miles with a southeast wind I had six on the drop to top the
combine wining with 7554 a son of 3403
and MOLLY. with a speed of 1215 the next loft close to me was 1209 ypm . I won all
pools. The Second young bird race of 2001,
we were 5,6 combine a minute or so was lost clocking I could not bring
them down and it cost me the win. THIRD
YOUNG BIRD RACE. 200 MILES. Our FOURTH
RACE 279 MILES RACE. THE
FIFTH
RACE YOUNG BIRD RACE 9-22-01. THE SIXTH YOUNG
BIRD RACE ON 9-20-01 157 MILES HEAD
WIND THE WHOLE WAY I HAD EIGHT ON THE DROP CLOCKING ALL 8 IN 9 SECONDS
WITH MY TAURIS ELECTRIC CLOCK. I TOOK THE TOP POSITIONS
ON THE COMBINE SHEET. THE SEVENTH YOUNG BIRD RACE WAS MORE OF
THE SAME HEAD WIND THIS WEEK IT WAS FROM 10-28 MPH. WE HAD A
279
MI RACE I HAD 4 ON THE DROP AND SQUEEZED OUT ANOTHER COMBINE
WIN BY 6 SECONDS. THIS WEEK 200
MILES I SQUEEZED BY AGAIN WINNING THE COMBINE BY 9
SECONDS . I HAD 3 ON DROP AGAIN WINNING ALL POOLS IN CLUB. JUST
LUCKY I GUESS.
WELL ITS THE LAST RACE OF YOUNG BIRDS
2001 I FLY 334 MILES WE DID WELL HAVING 3 ON THE
DROP. THIS FLY SEALED
AVERAGE
SPEED FOR US WINNING IT BY 22 YARDS AND 44 MIN. WE
ALSO WIN OLD BIRD AND YOUNG BIRD COMBINED AVER SPEED,
CHAMPION
LOFT OF THE COMBINE
PLUS MY
7520 WINS CHAMPION BIRD.
2004 Futurity Season
The SMCC race in Detroit was Sat. Sept. 18th 2004 with a strong N/NE wind
(headwind). Warren Sessink clocked my bird first to his loft taking
19th position overall taking a $1000 capital prize and high pools
for both Warren and myself. His loft was the 4th loft in the race
over all. My friend
Don Goodwin was 3rd overall in this SMCC race also which was 1 minute behind
the winning bird. His bird is bred out of a pair of yearlings he bought
from me last year. Don's bird flew in the loft of Ken Howard which
was the winning loft of this big race in Detroit.
Also on Sept
25th 2004 in the ( EMF) East Meadow Long Island Auction Futurity
which was a 300
plus mile race my bird scored 7th position which was flown by Mark Nieradko .

2003 Futurity Season
Like most pigeon
flyers. I only send a few birds to out of area futurities. It is
quite an accomplishment to have any survive until race day.
Winning money is icing on the cake! Here is a brief breakdown of
my birds did this season in other lofts hands.
NSRB - Oct.
18th - I placed 3rd position flying a bird in Manny Parada's loft and 7th place in this
highly regarded Long Island
race with Circle Loft, This race paid out to the top 50 positions.
Circle loft won the race with two birds on the drop my bird
clocked by circle was right behind
the winners coming to the loft with another bird and clocking in
7th . That’s very good racing.
East Meadow Auction
Futurity - Sept. 30th - I won 4th and 30th in this 323 mile
Long Island race.

Convention Race - Nov. 7,2003- I placed two birds in the $$$
in 32nd position and 66th place in this
CONVENTION RACE
for Young Birds
SNF Auction
Futurity - Oct. 4th - I clocked in the money.
Scranton Futurity
- Oct. 5th - I won 2nd place in this 334-mile race.
Lou McElroy
Futurity - Oct. 18th - I took 4th place in this Greater North
Carolina Concourse $50 per band race with Sal DiFazio of Waterway
Loft handling my bird. A bird bred out of breeders from me won the
5th position.
Some other wins
include: 16th and 17th in the Biddeford Maine Futurity,
placed in the top 20 in the Motor City Futurity 400 mile
race, won two prizes in two different lofts in the Detroit
Classic 300 mile race.
As you can see, I had
a good run in 2003. I won money in most of the futurities my birds
flew and did well in the club and combine race here in PA. I’m
glad the races are over though; it’s getting too cold. Maybe I’ll
have to go back to NC soon to warm up for next year.
